FROM MEMS-SENSORS TO BIOMEMS - INVENTED FOR LIFE
Franz Lärmer
Robert Bosch GmbH, GERMANY
www.bosch.com
MEMS has virtually shaped a new industry. Starting from inertial sensors for the automotive area to increase the safety of driving a car by anti-skidding systems as well as passenger safety by airbag protection systems in crash and roll-over situations, silicon sensors conquered the consumer area by adding a huge spectrum of new functions to smartphones and other portable devices, making the life of consumers easier and more comfortable. The integration of artificial intelligence (embedded AI) adds even more intelligence to smart multisensor-modules. With the implementation of BioMEMS-chips into medical devices for molecular diagnostics at the point of care, we are expanding the range of our established Vivalytic platform for the diagnostic of infectious diseases to multiplex degrees unreachable so far. Hundreds of different diagnostic targets will be discovered in parallel by a single test on our Vivalytic platform in future. The talk will describe the success story of the enabling MEMS technology from an industrial point of view and show challenges in bringing new breakthrough technology into mass-manufacturing.

Digital printing with inkjets in recent years has focused attention on on-demand printing and a wide range of applications. Inkjets are increasingly serving in many types of industries and uses. PrecisionCore is a next-generation inkjet printing technology created by Epson. It meets these needs for inkjet printing while breaking open new markets. PrecisionCore was created by merging MEMS fabrication processes, thin-film piezoelectric technology and more with Epson's inkjet technology and experience.
MARKET DEVELOPMENT IN THE WORLD OF MEMS AND SENSORS
Paul Carey
SEMI MEMS & Sensors Industry Group, USA
www.semi.org/en/communities/msig
The SEMI MEMS and Sensors Industry Group (MSIG) is the global leader in gathering companies, industry leaders, semiconductor experts and academia to gain insights on the latest development trends and challenges in sensor design, manufacturing, integration and applications. New sensor technologies having dramatically reduced size, weight, power, and cost are creating exciting opportunities for future applications. MEMS and sensor innovations are driving an explosion of automotive, consumer electronics, healthcare, mobile, industrial space and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In this presentation, Dr. Carey will explain the SEMI MSIG mission to "Sensorize" the world and show the latest market trends in the MEMS and Sensors industry.
