Situated in South Taiwan with 2.7 million inhabitants, Kaohsiung is second in size only to the capital Taipei in the north. With its relatively constant warm weather, outdoor activities can be carried out practically all year round. Its coastal location gives Kaohsiung some magnificent ocean and harbor views such as those from Xinguang Ferry Wharf, True Love Ferry Pier, No.13 Honorary Pier and Fishermen's Wharf. And boats are also a big part of the city's tourism: a ride on the Cijin Ferry or on Love Boat touring Love River to enjoy the subtropical exotic surrounding. Also Kaohsiung's newest ferry ride takes you for a 30-minutes crossing to Cijin Island. It can be taken from Xingguang Park, next to KEC. The National Museum of Science & Technology is the premier museum of Applied Sciences in Taiwan and in its field is only second to the avant-garde Museum of Science and Industry in Paris. Hakka is an important part of Southern Chinese culture and the Hakka Cultural Museum is a great place to understand and absorb it. The three-sided compound construction of red brick and ceramic not only presents a sizeable amount of artifacts but also shows the culture through regularly-held traditional events. History of the city can best be explored in the Kaohsiung Museum of History, while the Military Museum of the R.O.C. Air Force Academy presents a great collection of vintage R.O.C. military aircraft and related documents. 
In recent years, Kaohsiung has undergone a dramatic transformation from a mainly industrial city to a service-oriented, cultural and creative one.
